Pope Francis Appoints Vatican Authority as Bishop in Italy

The Vatican Press Office reported that Pope Francis appointed the so far Secretary of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, Archbishop Giacomo Morandi, as the new Bishop of Reggio Emilia-Guastalla (Italy). This appointment is based on the resignation by the former bishop due to the retirement age, 75.

Giacomo Morandi an Italian, was ordained a priest on April 11, 1990, for the Archdiocese of Modena-Nonantola.

He was director of the Diocesan Biblical Service between 1994 and 2013, Episcopal Vicar for Catechesis, Evangelization and Culture between 2005 and 2010, Archpriest of the Capitol of the Chair; and vicar general between 2010 and 2015.

He has also been a professor of Sacred Scripture at the Interdiocesan Theological Study of Reggio Emilia-Guastalla, Modena-Nonantola, Carpi, Parma between 1993 and 2015; and at the Higher Institute of Religious Sciences of Modena-Nonantola between 1993 and 2015.

On October 27, 2015, he was appointed Undersecretary of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith at the Vatican.

On July 18, 2017, he was appointed titular Archbishop of Cerveteri and Secretary of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, receiving the episcopal consecration on September 30 of the same year.
