Pope Francis appointed Mons. Vincenzo Turturro, Counselor of the Nunciature in service of the Secretariat of State of the Holy See, as the new Apostolic Nuncio in Paraguay, after accepting the resignation due to age limit of Mons. Eliseo Antonio Ariotti.
The president of Paraguay, Santiago Peña, greeted Bishop Turturro through his social networks this December 29, “wishing him the greatest success in this new stage in which we will work together.” He also thanked Bishop Ariotti for the “great work” carried out by him.
Bishop Vincenzo Turturro, 45 years old, was born in Bisceglie (Bari) on 7 October 1978. He was ordained a priest on October 31, 2003.
In 2006, he completed his Bachelor’s Degree in Dogmatic Theology (with a specialization in Theological Anthropology) at the Theological Faculty of Apulia. That same year, she began her studies in Rome at the Pontifical Ecclesiastical Academy. In 2009, she obtained her Doctorate in Dogmatic Theology (with a specialization in Ecclesiology) at the Pontifical Lateran University, presenting a thesis on communion and synodality in the Church. Additionally, at the same university, she obtained a Licentiate in Canon Law in 2011.
On July 1, 2009, he entered the Diplomatic Service of the Holy See and then carried out his duties in the Pontifical Representations in Zimbabwe, Nicaragua and Argentina. Recently, he was transferred to the Section for Relations with States and International Organizations of the Secretariat of State and was also private secretary to Cardinal Pietro Parolin, the Secretary of State.
In 2014 he was awarded the title of Chaplain of His Holiness and in 2023 that of Honorary Prelate of His Holiness.
Bishop Turturro speaks fluent English and Spanish.
