Pope Francis has named four new auxiliary bishops for a single archdiocese, Los Angeles, the largest in the United States. This is the first time in the Pontificate of Pope Francis.
The Holy Father had already appointed three auxiliary bishops for a single jurisdiction in 2015, but this is the first appointment of four prelates at the same time for a single see.
Bishop José Gomez, Archbishop of Los Angeles and former president of the United States Bishops’ Conference affirmed on July 18 that “this is a day of joy for the family of God in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles.”
“We thank God and we thank the Holy Father for this great blessing of the new bishops. Each one is a man of prayer who loves Jesus and has a great desire to share God’s love and serve his people, ”added the Prelate of Mexican origin on his Facebook page About him.
“We pray for them and entrust them to the tender care of the Virgin Mary, our Holy Mother,” he concluded.
With these appointments, the Archdiocese of Los Angeles will have a total of six auxiliary bishops. The other two are Bishop Alejandro Dumbrigue Aclan and Bishop Marc Vincent Trudeau.
