Nun’s Meditation Emphasizes Hope and Eucharist

Sister MarĂa Gloria Riva, a member of the monastic community of the Perpetual Adorers of the Most Holy Sacrament, gave a meditation in the Paul VI Hall during the Jubilee of the Holy See. Pope Leo XIV attended the meditation. Sister Riva warned of the risk of losing historical roots and emphasized that today’s society demands a hope that lies between the past and the future.

The nun stressed that hope lies in eternal life and that we should not renounce our roots or lose sight of the goal and direction we want to pursue. She encouraged the members of the Holy See to work towards the great horizon of life that never dies, rather than short and mediocre horizons. Sister Riva also emphasized that gazing upon the Blessed Sacrament “can heal us from evil” and purify our vision.

Sister Riva highlighted the importance of the Eucharist as spiritual nourishment for hope for eternal life, marvelously uniting past, present, and future. She encouraged the faithful to allow themselves to be shaped by God and to realize the illuminations that the Holy Spirit offers through the Eucharist and the Virgin Mary. The nun concluded her speech by looking to Mary, who guards us in our failures and potential, and emphasized that Jesus teaches us to rediscover the paths of hope through the Eucharistic Bread.
