Opening Prayer:
O Holy Infant Jesus of Prague, behold us prostrate at Thy feet imploring Thy blessing and assistance. We firmly believe in Thy goodness, Thy love and Thy mercy. We also know that the more we honor Thee, the more Thou wilt bless us. Remember that thou hast told us to ask, to seek, and to knock at the Door of Thy Infinite Mercy. So it is with the greatest confidence that we kneel before Thee today. Teach us how to ask that we may receive; show us how o seek what we find. Be pleased to listen while we knock, O Divine Infant Jesus, and open Thy loving Heart to our trustful supplication. Amen.
O Mary, Mother of God and our Immaculate Mother pray to Jesus for us.
MEDITATION
Poverty of Jesus
“The foxes have holes and the birds of the air nests,
but the Son of Man hath not where to lay His head” (Matt. 8:20)
From the beginning of His earthly life until the end Jesus was poor. He came down from heaven to teach us the virtue of poverty together with all the other virtues. Having all things set before Him Our Divine Lord chose to be poor and died in utter poverty. Indeed Jesus had not where to lay His head; for during His Public Life He spent His nights in the prayer of God in the open air. Yes, Jesus passed entire nights praying for us; praying for the entire world! And, when our Divine Redeemer died, He was divested of His garments and had not even a sepulcher wherein to be buried.
Our Divine Savior tells us: “Blessed are the poor in spirit for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.” By these words He would have us understand that if we are content with our lot in life, and are resigned to the dispositions of Divine Providence in our regard, not clinging to, or coveting material goods inordinately, we shall receive the reward of eternal life. May the Infant Jesus grant us the grace to be poor in spirit so that we may abound in the spiritual riches of eternity.
Concluding Prayer
O Holy Infant Jesus, I thank Thee for all the sufferings which Thou didst endure in this mortal life for me. At Thy birth a humble manger was Thy cradle. Thy entire life was spent among the poor, and it was for them that Thy greatest miracles were performed. O Prince of Peace, Redeemer of mankind, the very son of God, I recommend my earnest petitions to Thee in this Novena (Here mention petition) …Teach me to be poor in spirit that I may receive the blessed reward which Thou hast promised.
Enlighten my mind, strengthen my will, and inflame my heart with love for Thee. Amen.
Holy Mother of the Infant Jesus, intercede for me.
Pater, Ave, Gloria.(Once)
Infant Jesus, poor and simple grant my petitions.
