Nicaraguan Dictatorship Siezes Jesuit University in Nicaragua after Accusing of “terrorism”

All the assets and bank accounts of the Central American University (UCA), belonging to the Society of Jesus (Jesuits) in Nicaragua after accusing of “terrorism”.

Arturo McFields Yescas, former Nicaraguan ambassador to the Organization of American States (OAS), today a political exile for denouncing the arbitrariness of the regime, published through his account on the social network “X” the UCA email addressed to the community college.

In the message, the university denounces that on Tuesday, August 15 at 5:29 pm (local time), the Court of the Tenth Criminal District of Managua Circumscription Hearings, in charge of Judge Dr. María Saavedra Corrales, notified “the seizure of real estate, personal property, money in national or foreign currency from immobilized bank accounts, financial products in national or foreign currency owned by the UCA”.

Likewise, it is indicated that from now on the regime in Nicaragua will be in charge of “all educational programs.”

In the email, the UCA assured the university community that these measures were taken based on “unfounded allegations” that its study center ” functioned as a center of terrorism, organizing criminal groups.”

“Given all this, the Central American University reiterates its commitment to Nicaraguan society for high-quality higher education and faithful to its founding principles for 63 years,” the message continues.

After thanking the trust and solidarity received, the UCA finally informed that it suspends from this Wednesday, August 16, “all academic and administrative activities, until it is possible to resume them in an ordinary way.”

In images disseminated on social networks, UCA staff are observed removing an image of the crucified Christ from the university chapel. According to Nicaraguan lawyer Martha Patricia Molina, this action is a way to safeguard “religious and sacred content” to “avoid any future desecration by the Sandinista dictatorship.”

This latest attack against the UCA is the last carried out by the dictators Daniel Ortega and Rosario Murillo, who in recent days had frozen the university’s bank accounts and subsequently immobilized the transfer of their assets.
