The rector of the Santa Rosa de Chosica School (Peru) and vicar of the Santo Toribio parish, Fray Paulo Saavedra López, encouraged the faithful to live the new year by giving their lives to God. He also added that we should not be carried away by cabal for good luck or forecasts they claim to know what the future holds.
Fray Saavedra pointed out that the faithful should not get carried away “right off the bat” by the forecasts that usually occur in the days prior to the traditional celebration of the New Year. In his view, a Catholic is one who constantly seeks to train to always act according to faith.
“It is more correct to appeal to the Lord to bless me in the next year, to want to unite and get closer to Him so that I live a year devoted to Him, putting all things, my goods, my family, at His feet,” he stressed.
The priest urged us to look at this time for a moment to reflect on “how am I going to offer my year to the Lord, which I offer to Him”, to “know how to face all the challenges that may come our way”.
We must analyze “how I am going to better live the Gospel, which the Lord wants to give me,” he added.
Fray Saavedra indicated that it is time for the faithful to dispose of their hearts and reflect on what they can offer in their lives to the Lord, to walk with faith, trust and hope with God next year.
The priest concluded his message by reminding us to be grateful for the previous year and its blessings.
