A neurologist who set sail to work against the pandemic Covid 19 in New York City in 2020 has been awarded this year’s Catholic Doctor of the Year Award. Anjor Daniel E. O’Connell, MD, MPH received the award on October 26 during the special occasion held in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles. There have conducted Mass for Catholic Health Care Professionals.
“I certainly cannot see myself doing medicine without my Catholic Christian foundation. I think that is a major driver- if not the ultimate driver- for me doing it, because I can’t imagine being a physician without that foundation,” O’Connell said.
On the occasion of the Nicaraguan Doctor’s Day, the Archbishop of Managua, Cardinal Leopoldo Jose Brenes, sent a message valuing and thanking the service that health personal performs in caring for those who suffer, especially during the Covid 19.
He spoke about the pain that the pandemic had caused in doctors, who suffer when their patients die and stressed that he has heard the testimony of “the tears that have been shed when they have made every effort to bring that brother and sister forward at the end of the virus defeated them”. The Cardinal thanked all the health personnel and their generosity.
