Mexico Hosts the World Congress of Families

Mexico will again host the World Congress of Families, under the slogan “Accompanying families in a challenging world after 18 years. It is an event that will bring together leaders in favor of life and the defense of the natural family of the September 30 to October 2.

The World Congress of Families is an international and interreligious event founded to promote and defend the natural family, made up of a man and a woman with their children, as the pillar of society. It was born in the United States in 1997.

On its website, the XIV World Congress of Families stated that the objective of the event is to “unite and equip leaders, organizations and families”, in order to “affirm, celebrate and strengthen the family as the fundamental and natural environment key to the flourishing of mature individuals and sustainable societies”.

“The family is our natural habitat, the first community of life, a space of belonging, welcome and encounter”, and it is where “the beauty of life is discovered and the hope of a better world is based”, he indicated.

The organizers warned that although the family allows the development and humanization of people “like no other institution” and “propels us to fullness”, currently “it is not immune to conflict and suffering.”

“There are no perfect families; some are more or less functional. A number of challenges and desires, of internal and external circumstances, put its members to the test day by day, for which we are normally not sufficiently prepared”, they pointed out on the official website of the event.

Faced with this reality, Congress indicated that it has the mission of “accompanying families in the comprehensive and full development of their members” to contribute to personal and social well-being.

The event will offer workshops, family orientation and exhibitions where specialists will offer tools to strengthen the family, help to face “challenges at home” and contribute to personal growth.

The Congress will feature more than 50 national and international exhibitors from more than 20 nationalities, who are, as indicated on the website, “experts, politicians, social and religious leaders in the field of marriage, family and religious freedom ”.

Among the Catholic representatives are Cardinal Gerhard Müller, Prefect Emeritus of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith; Cardinal Carlos Aguiar Retes, Archbishop Primate of Mexico; and Antonia Salzano, the mother of Blessed Carlo Acutis.

In addition, recognized Catholic priests specializing in forming marriages and families in Mexico will participate, such as Fr. Adolfo Güémez, Fr. Ángel Espinosa de los Monteros and Fr. Guillermo Serra.

The event will be held in person from September 30 to October 2, 2022, at the Expo Santa Fe convention center in Mexico City.
