Mary Magdalene, a woman from Magdala, was a faithful follower of Jesus after He cast out seven demons from her (Luke 8:2). Despite popular misconceptions, there is no biblical basis for portraying her as a prostitute or immoral woman. The Bible never associates her with the “woman in the city who was a sinner” (Luke 7:37) or the woman saved from stoning (John 8:1-11), contrary to popular depictions.
Mary Magdalene was a witness to the pivotal events surrounding Jesus’ crucifixion, including the mock trial, Pontius Pilate’s sentencing, and the crucifixion itself. She was one of the women who stood by Jesus, trying to comfort Him during His final moments. Moreover, she was the first witness to His resurrection and was commissioned by Jesus to share the news with the others (John 20:11-18).
