Mar Alex Tharamagalam Installed as Auxiliary Bishop of Mananthavady 

Episcopal Ordination of Bishop Alex Tharamangalm and Installation as Auxiliary Bishop of
the Eparchy of Mananathavady was presided over by Mar Joseph Pamplani, the Archbishop
of Tellicherry at the Pastoral center, Dwaraka on 1 st November 2022.

Mar Jose Porunnedam, the Bishop of the Diocese of Mananthavady, and Mar Sebastian
Pozholiparampil, Bishop of Hosur, Tamil Nadu were the co-celebrants of the episcopal
ordination. Rev. Fr. Anoop Kalyani, Chancellor of the diocese and Rev. Fr. Jose Mathew
Punchayil, Secretary of the Pastoral Council, read the canonical decrees. Cardinal Baselios
Clemis Katholika Bava, Major Archbishop of Syro Malankara church, preached the homily.
Very Rev Monsignor Paul Mundolickal, Vicar General of Mananthavady Diocese was the
archdeacon of the ceremony.

Rev. Fr. Abraham Kavilpurayidathil, Vice Chancellor of Syro Malabar Church read the
congratulatory message sent by Cardinal George Alencherry. Dr. Varghese Chakalakal, the
Bishop of the Diocese of Calicut, Rev. Fr. Joseph Muthirakala, the clergy representative, Fr.
Linson Chenginiyath CST, and Mrs. Lizzie Joseph, Pastoral Council member, offered the
felicitations. Mar Alex Taramangalam spoke thanking everyone.

Mon. Alex Tharamangalam was elected as Auxiliary Bishop of the Diocese of Mananthavady
at the Synod Session of the Syro-Malabar Church on 25 August 2022.

Bishop Alex Tharamangalam has chosen as his motto: “That they may all be one (Jon
17:21). “I believe that love and unity are essential for the survival of mankind. The
windows of eternal life are opened through them. This is the reason for my motto said
Bishop Alex Tharamangalam in an interview conducted by Catholicnews.in.

This is the Golden Jubilee Year of the Diocese of Mananthavady; the diocese was established by Pope Paul VI on 1 May 1973.
