It is very difficult to cope with the parental departure of the kids. We learn the first steps of love and compassion from them. Catholicism teaches us that the responsibilities and obligations to them do not end with their death.
It is the duty of children to pray for their deceased parents. Respect and esteem should continue even after death. It is the fulfillment of the fourth command to honor one’s parents. That is why we should pray daily for the parents who are deceased.
Here is a beautiful, short prayer that will help you to pray for the deceased parents:
“God, you are the one who commanded and taught us to honor our parents. So turn your merciful eyes on the souls of our mother and father. Forgive them for their sins. Give me the blessing to see my parents, who died through the Lord Jesus Christ, again in the joy of eternity.”
Amen.
