At the end of the Jubilee Holy Mass, Pope Francis highlighted the role of military service members as “agents of security and freedom” in promoting peace. He prayed for peace in various conflict zones, including Ukraine, Palestine, Israel and throughout the Middle East, Myanmar, Kivu (DRC), and Sudan.
During the Mass in Saint Peter’s Square, he acknowledged the presence of military chaplains and extended greetings to military personnel worldwide. He referenced the Second Vatican Council’s constitution, “Gaudium et spes,” encouraging military members to serve their countries responsibly, emphasizing that armed service should focus on self-defense and respect for life and international law.
Pope Francis concluded by urging prayers for silence of weapons and a louder call for peace from those suffering in troubled areas.
