Kerala Catholic Bishops’ Council Launches Initiative to Support Landslide Survivors

The Kerala Catholic Bishops’ Council (KCBC) has announced plans to build 100 houses for the survivors of recent landslides in Mundakkai-Chooralmala, Wayanad, and Vilangad, Kozhikode. This initiative is part of the Church’s ongoing efforts to provide support and relief to those affected by the natural disaster.

In a statement released on 6 August, the KCBC confirmed that resources for the housing project will be mobilized from all dioceses of the Catholic Church in Kerala. The houses will be constructed in locations identified by the government, ensuring that the needs of the survivors are met.

In addition to providing shelter, the Catholic Church will also offer medical assistance to landslide survivors through its network of hospitals. The Church’s social service wing, Kerala Social Service Forum, will lead the relief efforts, including trauma care and counselling services for the victims.

The KCBC has assured that the Church will continue to work closely with the Disaster Management Authority to carry out relief works and provide support to those affected by the landslides. This initiative demonstrates the Church’s commitment to serving the community and providing aid to those in need.
