Mariam Thresia was born on 26 April 1876 in the village of Puthenchira to the Mankidian family, the daughter of Thomas and Anna. While studying in college, she tried to pray in solitude, avoiding her friends. From the age of five, she began to fast and to give delicious food to others. She avoided all luxuries and tore off her ears to avoid wearing jewelry. She made her first confession at the age of six. At the age of 12, he received the Holy Communion.
From a young age, she was eager to attend the Holy Mass. After the death of her mother, she wanted to be alone, but when obstacles arose, he stayed at home on the advice of his spiritual father. She would still actively participate in the daily Mass. In 1902, Marian Thressia adopted Vithayathilachan as her spiritual father and decided to move to another house as he had determined. The initiative was put on hold because the bishop interrupted.
She became a nuisance to her family as people began to gather around the house because of the spiritual experiences she was experiencing. Therefore, the Bishop ordered her to stay at the Carmelite Convent in Ollur. He thought it would help him to know God’s will for her. Even while at the Carmelite convent, mental and spiritual trials and tribulations continued, and the bloodshed on Fridays continued. In 1913, the bishop allowed Thressia to move into a new home. Thressia was accompanied by three others. It became a home of prayer and ministry.
Mariam Thressia worked hard to strengthen the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith. Illness and demonic harassment increased the suffering. But she accepted them all without complaint and made them worthy. On May 10, 1926, Mariam Thressia was injured in an accident and underwent surgery at Chalakudy Hospital. The Holy Father gave the last rites on June 6 as her health was deteriorating. Mariam Thressia died the next day. She was canonized by Pope John Paul II on April 9, 2000, and canonized by Pope Francis on October 13, 2019.
