Irish Singer’s Hymns Hit the Right Note with Gen Z

Paul Luby, a 27-year-old Irish singer, has gone viral for singing hymns from Mass in pubs, connecting with Gen Z youth in Sydney and Perth. His rendition of “Here I Am, Lord” resonated with young Irish people, who sang along and showed a lingering Catholic upbringing.

Luby’s music blends traditional Irish tunes, country ballads, and original compositions. He credits his childhood choir experience and parents’ religiosity for inspiring him to share hymns in a pub setting. “They stick with you and you just know the words,” he said.

The singer’s videos, like “Here I Am, Lord” and “Bangers and Mass”, have garnered widespread attention, including a priest’s praise from Houston. Luby hopes to showcase his original songs, like “To Be Okay”, dedicated to his cancer-surviving father.
