House Arrested Bishop in Nicaragua is Running out of Food

The Bishop who is under house arrest in Nicaragua is running out of food and other basic things needed.

“After 14 days of kidnapping they have not received food, medicine, clothing, or hygiene supplies,” explained the Diocese Media – Radio Stereo Santa Lucia Facebook account about what happened at the Mass.

Although Bishop Álvarez was not at the Mass that is usually celebrated at noon, he was later seen in the transmission of the daily Rosary in the Bishopric.

“Monsignor Rolando Álvarez was not seen during the Eucharist. Our prayers for him,” Diocese Media added.

Since August 4, the Bishop has been prevented from leaving the headquarters of the Bishopric together with five priests, two seminarians, and three lay people. The house is surrounded by police and is flown over with drones.

According to a local media report, two people have already left the Bishopric. It would be the laity Flavio Castro, cameraman; and Henry Corvera; with which there would be nine people in the Curia. This information has not been confirmed.

According to the newspaper La Prensa, there is still no formal accusation against the priest, but he is detained in the Directorate of Judicial Assistance (DAJ).
