Global Religious Leaders Unite for Ethical AI Use

Leaders from 11 of the world’s major religions, government representatives, and top tech companies have come together to sign the Rome Call for Ethical AI usage. The unprecedented gathering, AI Ethics For Peace, took place in Hiroshima, Japan, and aimed to address the ethical use of artificial intelligence.

Signatories included representatives from Eastern religions like Buddhism, Hinduism, and Zoroastrianism, as well as Abrahamic religions like Christianity, Judaism, and Islam. The Rome Call for AI Ethics, initiated by the Pontifical Academy for Life in 2020, seeks to promote responsible AI development and use.

Archbishop Vincenzo Paglia emphasized the need for collaboration, stating, “Artificial intelligence must be guided to serve humanity’s good from its design stage.” Pope Francis, though not present, tweeted his support, urging the attendees to prioritize human dignity and ban lethal autonomous weapons.

This landmark event marks a significant step towards ethical AI development, with the Rome Call platform now representing around 85% of the global population, spanning multiple religions and nations.
