the pontifical foundation Aid to the Church in Need’s headquarters and 23 national offices, together with individuals from throughout the globe, will join together in prayer on Saturday, February 1, with “a spirit of solidarity and hope.” Since seizing power in a coup d’état on 1st February 2021, Myanmar’s military has brutally attempted to consolidate its hold on power, killing and imprisoning opponents and targeting innocent people. It is to mark this tragic anniversary, that ACN is calling for a 24-hour Global Day of Prayer for peace in Myanmar.
The day is “an opportunity for everyone, regardless of their place of origin, to unite in a collective plea for peace and reconciliation,” according to Regina Lynch, Executive President of ACN International. The victims and “our brothers and sisters experiencing bombings, hunger, lack of electricity, and means” are the focus of this Global Day, Lynch notes.
In addition, February 1 will serve as a reminder of the millions of individuals who are still dealing with the fallout from the violence, including those who have been uprooted from their homes, young people who face a challenging future, and religious leaders who put their lives in danger to provide relief to those in need.
