The four martyrs of the Spanish Civil War were beatified by Cardinal Marcello Semeraro, prefect of the Congregation for the Causes of Saints, on 30 October. Francesco Castor Sojo Lopez and three companions were blessed at a Mass.
“They did not seek martyrdom, because one does not seek martyrdom, but suffers it. However, when the time came to bear their witness to Christ in blood, they did not shrink from it and embraced their cross with love,” said Semeraro in his homily. Blessed Francesco Sojo Lopez, Blessed Millan Garde Serrano Blessed Manuel Galcera Videllet, and Blessed Aquilino Pastor Cambero were the martyr priests who are beatified among the half-million martyrs of the Spanish Civil War.
Cardinal Semeraro announced that the new martyr’s feast day would be 25 October. The four of them belonged to the Fraternity of Diocesan Worker Priests of the Sacred Heart of Jesus.
