On 31 January, the Catholic Church celebrates the feast day of Saint John Bosco who was a teacher and founder of the Salesian Congregation. John Bosco was born in Turin, Italy, in 1815. He lost his father when he was two years old. John was later raised by his mother. John did a lot of work to continue his education, and after becoming a priest he established boarding schools and auditoriums along with churches to train young people and children.
In 1854, he Launched the Salesian Congregation. Prior to Don Bosco’s death in 1888, the Salesian Church’s missionary work had spread beyond Italy. These five principles of Don Bosco, a good teacher, are excellent role models for Christian teachers and parents who focus on their children’s education.
1. Make sincere citizens and good Christians
Teaching includes all emotions. Education is something that goes through all categories like affection, love, faith, religion and technology. Our education should make children good citizens. To be a good citizen is to be able to love one’s fellow man and to line up under one umbrella. To be a good Christian is to be taught to live according to Christian values.
2. Increase trust and confidence in others
The main purpose of education is to increase the confidence of a child – the saint reminds. The student can be trained to trust and trust others in addition to believing in his or her own abilities. Trust in others is important for developing good relationships and improving social life.
3. We need to understand that we love them
Education should be able to instill in children the feeling that they are being loved. At the same time, education should enable us to understand true love and to understand the feelings we feel within ourselves at different ages. Only then education will reach its full potential.
4. Do not skip entertainment and games
Never discourage children from playing and entertaining. Children grow up by playing. Fun and games help children to respect others, learn the rules and live in harmony with society.
5. Education should teach about grace
Education should be about imparting knowledge about God and His grace. A proper education enables a person to live in harmony with God and to live in harmony with him. These five factors help to bring education to its fullest. Don Bosco proved it with his teaching career giving the training to the children who were there in front of him. Through his modeling, he was giving the best message for all generations.
