“Feeling Loved is a Force that Sets Love in Motion”: Pope Francis

Pope Francis continued his teachings on “Jesus Christ Our Hope,” stating that love drives people, like the Blessed Virgin Mary, to share their faith. Due to a cold, he could not read his speech and had an aide share his thoughts on St. Luke’s Gospel about Mary’s visit to St. Elizabeth during his audience on February 5 at the Vatican.

He emphasized that it is Jesus, in Mary’s womb, who brings hope to people. Pope Francis described how Mary’s willingness to embark on this journey reflects the readiness of Biblical figures to follow God’s call, particularly in uncertain times. He noted that Mary does not shy away from the world but approaches others despite potential dangers.

The pope stressed the importance of knowing and feeling loved by God. He urged Christians to accept God’s love, which inspires the act of loving others, just as Mary did when she helped Elizabeth, who was facing a difficult pregnancy. He highlighted Mary’s faith in God’s promises and her connection to the past while carrying future hope.

Pope Francis also asked for prayers for peace in Ukraine and other war-torn countries and encouraged the congregation to invite Mary into their lives, hoping to embody her example of faith and patience.
