Faith can not be Destroyed: New Church Consecrated in Haiti in the Place of Destroyed Church

The new church of the parish of San Gerardo Mayela in the Haitian capital, Port-au-Prince, was consecrated on Sunday. This church is built after 12 years of an earthquake, in 2010, collapsed the old temple that was in the area.

The 7.0 magnitude earthquake caused the death of 316,000 people, 350,000 injuries, and more than 1.5 million victims, being one of the most devastating in human history. And also like the addition, the same year the island suffered various natural disasters and a cholera epidemic.

The new parish of San Gerardo Mayela is located in the Carrefour-Feuilles neighborhood of the Haitian capital and has been entrusted to the Redemptorist Congregation. The construction of the church took about four years reported Vatican agency Fides.

The inauguration was presided over by the Archbishop of Port-au-Prince, Msgr. Max Leroy Mesidor, in an atmosphere of celebration, prayer and joy, notes Fides.

Redemptorist missionary Renold Antoine told the Vatican agency that the Archbishop was the first to enter the church in procession, followed by priests, religious, groups, authorities and faithful.

The parish priest, Fr. Jean-Claudel Pierre, thanked God and Archbishop Leroy for their pastoral attention to the faithful, architects, engineers and workers who worked to rebuild the building.

Father Pierre also thanked the institutions and people who donated for the work.

Fides pointed out that the parish of San Gerardo Mayela is not yet finished and there are still parts to complete in the second phase of the works.
