The Ecuadorian Catholic Church offered several Sunday Masses in suffrage for aborted babies and children who die without Baptism. The liturgical celebrations took place in the cities of Guayaquil, Samborondón, Daule, Portoviejo, Santo Domingo, Ambato and Tulcán on 5 November, Sunday.
Within the framework of this proposal, a representative group of bishops from all over the country met at the Metropolitan Pantheon of Guayaquil, last Friday, November 3, to celebrate the traditional field Mass institutionalized by the local Archdiocese and the Charity Board of the city, which takes place annually next to the “Unborn Pavilion” of the cemetery.
At the end of the Eucharist, several children rang the bell found there, known as “The voice of the unborn,” which was blessed by Pope Francis during his visit to Ecuador, in memory of the 110 babies whose remains They rest in the place.
For his part, Mons. Eduardo Castillo Pino, Archbishop of Portoviejo, referred to this initiative. He explained that, in addition to entrusting the souls of children to the mercy of God, they also seek to “draw the attention of the faithful, and of society in general, to the dignity of these babies, who are among the poorest, unprotected and discarded from among the human family, as well as about the tragedy of the spread of abortion, its social tolerance and its favorable legislation.
“Let us hope that, next year, we too can achieve a space reserved for aborted or discarded babies, in one or more cemeteries of our archdiocese,” he concluded.
