Easter Sunday Bombing: Sri Lankan Cardinal Calls for International Support

The Archbishop of Colombo, Cardinal Ranjith Malcolm called international support for getting justice as the third anniversary of the Easter Sunday bombings in Sri Lanka is approaching. Very little has been done to bring the true perpetrators to justice, despite efforts and appeals from the Christian community in Sri Lanka.

The Cardinal called for international support to pressure the Sri Lankan government to investigate properly on the bombing.

“We don’t know what truly happened, we have to find answers. The first impression of this massacre was that it was purely the work of a few Islamic extremists. However, subsequent investigations indicate that this massacre was part of a grand political plot,” said the Cardinal.

Four judges, three expert committees, and two separate commissions have been investigating the case for almost three years. Their report came with recommendations such as banning Islamic extremist organizations but saying nothing of the Hindu or Buddhist organizations.
