How many of us accept the sufferings as the plan of God. Have you ever questioned God or gotten angry instead? I did several times. It was not always easy!
When it doesn’t seem like Jesus is there in our times of anxiousness and grief, turn to Mother Mary. She is the best example for those who trusted in God’s plan, even when it caused her great suffering. From the moment she said yes to Gabriel, she cooperated in what God wanted for her life even when it wasn’t easy.
Mary faced many situations including doubts from Joseph about her pregnancy. She traveled in her ninth month, gave birth to her baby in a place for animals, hurried to Egypt to escape murdering soldiers, wondered about Jesus’ mission and where it would lead, watched her neighbors in Nazareth turn on her son, and saw Him be killed in a most cruel way.
Mary suffered, too. Hence, she can understand when we suffer. She wants to draw us close to her and help us find the peace we seek. Mary wants to help us experience the calm we desire for our lives. This makes sense because we know that throughout Mary’s life, she thought of others before herself.
Mary’s Compassion
Immediately after the angel Gabriel, visited her, she went in haste to see and help Elizabeth, her cousin and remained with her for three months.
At the wedding at Cana, when the couple ran out of wine and would be greatly embarrassed in town for the mistake, Mary felt compassion and appealed to Jesus. He questioned the timing. Is His ministry beginning here at a wedding? Mary understood and told the servants, “Do whatever He tells you.” (John 2:5) She never wavered and Jesus embraced his public ministry at his mother’s request.
Mary’s compassion is available to us as we deal with life’s stresses. She doesn’t let us to not walk alone. She will accompany you always. She takes our prayers to Jesus and appeals on our behalf. Pray for Mary’s help often!
