Preparing for Christmas requires preparing not only externally but also internally. To that end, introspection and making good decisions can help to make a better personal life.
How can we prepare for Christmas through the sacrament of Confession? Here are five things that can help us …
1. Introspect yourself with prayer and an open mind to the Holy Spirit
According to the gospel, the Holy Spirit can understand how much you are loved and reveal your failings in love. At least 15 minutes should be spent on self-examination.
2. Pray for grace to cause true repentance
Repentance is the spirit of confession. It is therefore necessary to pray for the grace to have true repentance in front of a crucifix. Do not be satisfied with detecting only violations of the rules. We must come to the grace of recognizing that every sin has made God the Father weep, hurt Jesus’ body, and grieve the Spirit.
3. Understand that what is in the confession, is not the priest, but Christ
No matter who the confessing priest is, you must believe that he is Christ. When you go to confession, if you can, close your eyes and imagine with remorse that you are at Calvary.
4. Make a Simple Confession
Not every sin needs to be described in detail. Suffice it to say it clearly. Never justify yourself. Never confess the sins of others. Moisten your soul and its wounds with humility, clarity, and appropriate extension. Thus the spirit of patience will touch you.
5. Listen to the words of the prayer for forgiveness
One side of the body of Christ is opened in the moments of forgiveness. From there the waters of grace flow to you. Stand with an open heart. So know that it will purify and revive you. Then thank God for forgiveness.
