The Founder of the Notre Dame Monastery, saint Peter Fourier was born in 1565 in Mirecourt. Peter was a brilliant man who had a doctorate in the Theology of the Church Fathers. He fought against the then-prevailing Calvinist heresy. At the age of twenty-four, Peter has ordained a priest. Peter has later ordained vicar of his own parish, a stronghold of Calvinist heresy.
He was able to refute the arguments of heresy through his faithful speeches. Many returned to the true church and faith. Peter formed several organizations in the parish to raise the living standards of the people as well as the spiritual life. He also set up a bank for economic upliftment. But Peter was later deported. Peter died in exile at the age of 75.
He was Fourier was beatified by Pope Benedict XIII in 1730 and canonized by Pope Leo XIII in 1897.
