November 16: Saint Margaret of Scotland 

Saint Margaret of Scotland (1045-1093), also known as Margaret Wessex, was an English princess and a Scottish queen. She was born in Hungary later their family returned to England in 1057. Margeret married Malcolm III of Scotland by the end of 1070.

She was a very pious Christian and among many charitable works she established a ferry across the Fifth of Forth in Scotland for pilgrims traveling to St. Andrews in Fife. She attended charitable works, serving orphans and the poor every day before she ate and washed the feet of the poor in imitation of Christ. She rose at midnight every night to attend the liturgy. She spent much more time in prayer, devotional reading, and ecclesiastical embroidery. Her husband Malcolm admired her piety that he had her books decorated in gold and silver.

Her husband Malcolm III, and their eldest son Edward, were killed in the Battle of Alnwick against the English on 13 November 1093. Her son Edgar was left with the task of informing his mother of their deaths. Margeret was died at the age of 47 on 16 November 1093, three days after the death of her husband and elder son. She was canonized in 1250.
