Daily Gospel: Faith Eye

15th October 2021 LUKE 18:35-43

Monday of the 33rd Week in Ordinary Time

FAITH EYE

Jesus said to him, “Receive your sight; your faith has healed you (Luke 18:42).

Today’s gospel uses two titles for Jesus; ‘Jesus of Nazareth’ (used by crowds) and ‘Son of David’ (used by blind beggar of Jericho). The first title is a historical title whereas the second one is a messianic title.

As the axiom tells, ‘what is essential is not visible to eyes? It means what is essential is visible to hearts (inner eyes). It is so interesting that what is essential in Jesus is visible to blind beggar (Messiah, Son of David) whereas it is not visible to the crowd.

The blind beggar in today’s gospel is the manifestation of an eschatological person who is spiritually spiritual oriented that he is able to see who Jesus really is (Messiah-Son of David) with his inner eye of faith.

Our exterior eyes may help us to have a knowledge of Jesus just as it was in the case of the crowd, whereas only inner eyes faith can help us to have a true experience of Jesus. Amen.
