Daily Gosepl: TREACHEROUS COMPLACENCY

11 OCTOBER 2021 LUKE 11:29-32

Monday of the 28th Week in Ordinary Time

TREACHEROUS COMPLACENCY

“This is a wicked generation. It asks for a sign, but none will be given it except the sign of Jonah” (Luke 11:29).

“Greatly Blessed, but highly complacent” is how we can summarize the attitude of the people of Jesus’ time. They were greatly blessed with the presence, teaching and miracle of Jesus – the one who is sent by God. But they became highly complacent by being self-satisfied/ self-righteous and feeling superior to others.

Divine blessings/ favors are intended for a change of heart and to feel humble as it happened with people of Nineveh by the preaching of Jonah. It is not intended to make people proud. We become part of a “blessed generation” when blessings make us humble and it leads to repentance. People form an “evil generation” when they develop an attitude of pride through divine blessings! Amen.
