Accusing conversion activities Christian communities were attacked with violence by Hindu extremists in Belgavi, Karnataka. A group of activists from Sri Ram Sena, a movement linked to Hindutva, entered a prayer hall and kidnapped the faithful inside on 7 November. Hindu nationalists caused pastor Lema Cheriyan of intending on carrying out conversion activities. They locked him for 30 minutes in the prayer hall calling the police. At least 30 faithful were present there.
“These are the usual false accusations and the only use of force is that made by activists of the nationalist right who locked the pastor and the faithful in a room, committing that which is a crime under the Indian Penal Code. In Karnataka, right-wing groups feel strengthened by the proposal presented by the local government for strengthening of local anti-conversion laws,” said Sajan K. George, President of Global Council of Indian Christians.
In Chhattisgarh also on the same day, a prayer meeting by a group of Christian women from a rural village in the Dilai district was also targeted by Hindu fundamentalists. The building they were in is recognized as a Christian place of prayer, the women were beaten and everything in the hall was destroyed.
