The national coordinator of the Christian Liberation Movement (MCL), Eduardo Cardet Concepción, was arrested this Saturday by two policemen from the Cuban regime.
“Right now, 15 October 2022 at 8:30 p.m. [Spanish time], two policemen are at his house, taking Eduardo Cardet, national coordinator of the Christian Liberation Movement, into custody,” the organization denounced on its Twitter account.
Carlos Payá, a representative of the MCL in Spain, pointed out that the arrest occurred at 2:30 pm in Cuba and that the argument of the police was that it was “to talk.”
“They have taken him from his house in the town of Velasco to the city of Holguín,” he told, reports ACI Prensa.
Eduardo Cardet’s arrest comes as protests continue in several Cuban cities due to power cuts, worsened since Hurricane Ian hit the island in late September.
The arrest of the leader of the MCL also comes days after he stated on Radio Martí that “the residents of Velasco, on the north coast of Holguín, came out to demonstrate energetically against the regime, to the unanimous cry of freedom, freedom!”, reports a local newspaper in Cuba.
“More and more people joined the peaceful march. The protest grew along the main avenue, congregating in the park, and then continued along the avenue to the House of Culture. Then the reverse route was made “, he indicated about the situation in his town, Velasco, where he assured that ” the town participated massively ” reported the newspaper.
