The San Maximiliano Kolbe chapel, built by the prison inmates themselves, was blessed On 23 November 2021, in a prison in Catamarca (Argentina).
Saint Maximilian Kolbe was a Polish priest who gave his life to save a family man sentenced to death in the Nazi concentration camp of Auschwitz during World War II.
Within the framework of the 30th anniversary of the Penitentiary Service of the province of Catamarca, the San Maximiliano Kolbe Chapel located inside Prison No. 1 of Miraflores, Capayán department, was blessed.
The Bishop of Catamarca, Mons. Luis Urbanc; accompanied by the chaplain, Father Dardo Olivera; blessed the chapel, in the company of authorities from the Ministry of Security and the Provincial Penitentiary Service, staff, and inmates of the penal unit.
“The effort, the sacrifice, the love that the inmates have put in because the labor is theirs.” In addition, he thanked “all those who in one way or another have cooperated to make this a reality, “said Bishop Urbanc during the blessing ceremony.
“After much struggle, we have in the prison service this huge temple, which has been made with the sacrifice of many,” he added.
“We have to continue strengthening ties and the work generates close ties. Building this House of God and where the children of God meet is very important within the Penitentiary Service, ”he said.
