Catholic Ways to Handle Stress and Anxiety

Do you want to handle your anxiety and stress by yourself? If you ignore your worries, later it will not manageable for you. Hence if you have a bit of stress, be conscious of that. Otherwise, you may slip your sleep from your eyes.

Many times people will hit a breaking point, where they literally cannot go any further living like this. This may or may not be you, but either way, there is still hope.

If you’re still living with stress and anxiety, here are 6 ways to deal with it:

1. Admit there is an Issue

The primary step to dealing with stress and anxiety is to admit to yourself that you are dealing with a real issue. Anxiety is not a simple matter to leave and go away. Admit that it is affecting the easy going of your life and it is breaking the relationship with other people and God as well.

If you cannot deal with yourself, consult a doctor or find a counselor in your area. Talk to a trusted friend or family member. These are all necessary steps to deal with crippling anxiety and stress. If you follow any one of these you can tackle and manage it very well. But remember that it will take time and you may not get a sudden effect. However, you will be relaxed from the beginning and the healing process will continue.

2. Take Care of Yourself

Mental and physical health complement each other. So, you have to take care of your physical health. Regular exercise, for example, has been shown to significantly reduce symptoms of anxiety and depression. One study, in particular, showed that those who regularly exercise were 25 percent less likely to develop depression or an anxiety disorder over the next five years.

Start going to the gym, go on a bicycle ride, walk, or just do something. There’s a good chance you’ve stopped doing the things you’ve loved to do previously, so start doing those things again.

3. Stop Self-Medicating

Many people who deal with stress and anxiety will attempt to make themselves feel better by doing things that harm themselves even more. It is easier to fall into temptation while you are highly frustrated. If you find yourself stress-eating, camping out in front of your TV for hours, drinking, etc., it’s time to address this head-on and stop killing your soul.

This causes a cycle that is really, really hard to stop. The sooner you stop, the easier it will be.

4. Watch What Goes into Your Mind

This is really important. When you’re stressed out and your anxiety is through the roof, what do you turn to?

Philippians 4:8 says this: “Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.”

Paul is letting us know that what we put into our minds has a huge effect on us. It’s not just about emptying our minds of the wrong things but filling our minds with the good.

5. Don’t Neglect God

Your relationship with God is very important. If you neglect it, there will cause a high amount of harm in life. Turning to Him and allowing Him to renew your mind and spirit is going to be the fastest way to get your life back on track.

There will not happen any magic on the day you start praying and turning away from your sins. Many times, it can get worse. But knowing that you have God on your side fighting this battle with you is so encouraging.

You should utilize the power of prayer and the strength of the Scriptures in your worst time of life.
