Cardinal Virgilio do Carma da Silva, Archbishop of Dili, described Pope Francis’ recent visit to Timor-Leste as a “celebration of faith” and a “historical event” for the nation. He highlighted the visit’s significance in affirming the Timorese identity and Catholic faith, emphasizing that the country has a unique identity separate from its neighbours.
The Cardinal noted that the visit reinforced the faith and brought peace to the young people of Timor. He also recalled the strong messages left by the Pope, including the importance of joy, exuberance, and respect for elders and others.
