Pope Francis has confirmed the miracle that led to the intercession of Titus Brandzuma, who was martyred in 1942 at the Dachau Concentration Camp. The Pope authorized Cardinal Marcelo Semeroro, the Prefect of the Vatican Congregation for the Causes of Saints to issue a decree acknowledging this miracle. This confirmation led to the elevation of Fr. Titus Brandsma to the rank of a saint.
He was a priest, professor, and journalist. Titus Brandsma. He was born on 23 February 1881 in Oegeklooster, Friesland. Titus has ordained a priest in 1905. Following the German occupation of the Netherlands in 1940, he spoke out against Nazi pressures. This was in the wake of the Nazi intervention, which undermined the freedom of Catholic education and the Catholic media. He was arrested in January 1942 after he strongly opposed the forced Nazi propaganda in the Catholic press.
On June 19 of that year, he was transferred to Dachau, once the ‘largest priest cemetery in the world’. He was then poisoned and killed on July 26. He laid down his life for the faith and was canonized on November 3, 1985, by Pope John Paul II. The miracle of miraculous healing from cancer was mediated by the Blessed Titus Brandsma.
