The authorities arrested the person linked to the murder of the Auxiliary Bishop of Los Angeles, Msgr. David O’ Connel.
Local media such as FOXLA indicate that the suspect has not yet been identified, but was arrested at the property located at 20400 S. Kenwood Avenue, in the town of Torrance.
Investigations to date reveal that it was not a random shot that killed Bishop O’Connell, but that the person who shot him was someone who knew him.
The Prelate received a bullet wound to the torso and was declared dead at the scene of the crime, in the town of Hacienda Heights, in Los Angeles County.
“We have been informed early this morning by the Los Angeles County Sheriff that the death of Auxiliary Bishop David O’Connell yesterday has been determined to be a homicide. We are very shocked and saddened by this news,” Archbishop of Los Angeles Msgr. José Gómez said in a February 19 statement.
“Let us continue to pray for Bishop Dave and his family; and let us pray for those who enforce the law so that they continue with their investigations into this terrible crime”, encouraged the Archbishop.
“We ask our Blessed Mother Mary to intercede and be a Mother to all of us in this moment of sadness and pain,” concluded the Prelate of Mexican origin.
In a press conference held this Monday, Los Angeles County Sheriff Robert G. Luna reported that the person of interest is Carlos Medina, 65, Hispanic, who “made comments that the bishop owed him money. He is the husband of the bishop’s housekeeper.
Noting that she has received a large number of messages and calls in the last 48 hours, Luna said that she “didn’t know the bishop, but this man, this bishop made a huge difference in the community and it’s sad that this happened. ”
