During his inaugural address on January 20, President Donald Trump attributed his survival of two assassination attempts to God and pledged to lead the United States into a “golden age” marked by increased wealth and territorial expansion.
The newly sworn-in president frequently referenced God in his speech, expressing his belief that divine intervention spared him from assassination attempts.
“Starting today, our nation will prosper and regain its global respect,” the president stated. “We will become the model for other countries and will no longer permit others to take advantage of us. Every day of my administration, my priority will be putting America first.” He added, “I was saved by God to make America great again.”
The president pledged that his administration would build a “colour blind and merit-based” society, adding that “it will officially be the policy of the United States government to recognize only two genders: male and female,” a statement that was met with enthusiastic applause from most attendees.
