It was very simple more than many expected and it is over. The Vatican had said the funeral mass for Pope Benedict XVI would be a “simple” ceremony and proved by its time just lasted for 90 minutes, half the length of the 2005 funeral for Pope John Paul II.
It was a coda for the strange event in the century of “two popes”. The funeral was with the least presence of world leaders.
Pope Francis gave Benedict one final prayerful salute, bowing his head and placing his hand on the coffin as pallbearers took Pope Benedict’s coffin back from the piazza into St. Peter’s Basilica. It will be the lasting images of Pope Francis and Benedict XVI.
