Pope Francis highlighted the teachings of Pope John Paul I. This is what the Holy Father wrote in a message read by the Vatican Secretary of State, Cardinal Pietro Parolin, when he participated this 13 May in a congress dedicated to the Magisterium of John Paul I, who will be beatified on 4 September.

“These themes represent a sure point of reference for finding concrete solutions to the many difficulties and challenges facing the Church today,” added Pope Francis.

In addition, the Holy Father explained that Pope John Paul I “throughout his existence, constantly sought and pointed to the substance of the Gospel as the only eternal truth, beyond any historical contingency or fashion.”

In this line, Pope Francis said that John Paul I was a “wise and humble man, endowed with good culture” and added that “he knew how to speak of God with evangelical simplicity, bearing witness to the image of a Church that does not shine with light own, but with reflected light, which does not come from men but from the Lord.”

Finally, the Holy Father indicated that this Congress organized by the John Paul I Vatican Foundation is a valuable opportunity to “rediscover the spiritual heritage and holiness of life of this beloved Pontiff” because it is based on historical research thanks to the archival documentation that it allows deepening “in the thought and in the teaching” of his beloved predecessor.
