Pope Francis pointed out that the crises of life “rekindle our need for God and thus allow us to return to the Lord, to re-experience his love.”
The indication to the life of faithful made by the Holy Father in a message sent this 9 May through his official Twitter account.
“We should not fear the crises of life and faith: crises rekindle our need for God and thus allow us to return to the Lord, re-experience his love,” Pope Francis’ account wrote.
During the recitation of the Regina Coeli on April 24, 2022, before the many faithful gathered in St. Peter’s Square, Divine Mercy Sunday, the Holy Father commented on the Gospel passage that recounts the encounter of Saint Thomas with the Risen Christ.
Along these lines, Pope Francis referred to the “crises” of the Apostle Thomas “to tell us that we should not fear the crises of life and faith.”
“Crises are not a sin, they are a path, we should not fear them. Many times they make us humble because they strip us of the idea of being correct, of being better than others. Crises help us recognize our need: they rekindle our need for God and thus allow us to return to the Lord, to touch his wounds, to experience his love again, like the first time”, the Pope then indicated.
In this way, the Holy Father affirmed that “an imperfect but humble faith, which always returns to Jesus, is better than a strong but presumptuous faith, which makes us proud and arrogant”.
For this reason, Pope Francis invited the next time we go through “a difficult moment or a period of crisis… in our tiredness, seek Jesus, return to Him, to His forgiveness” because “He always forgives, always!” and he prayed that the Virgin, Mother of Mercy “accompany us on the path of faith and love”.
