If not Born, this may be the Silent Plight of Women and Children from Ukraine

The media are declining the news of the war between Ukraine and Russia. The violence in the country is not over. Russia is launching a vicious attack on Ukraine. Catholic News shares the soul-melting stories from Ukraine. Sister Liji speaks to Catholic news from Ukraine amidst the war zone.

A mother of a six-year-old boy has tortured by Russian soldiers. The woman was harassed in front of the boy for three days. On the third day, she died in front of her son. She was not killed in the shooting or the bombing. This woman is just one of the victims of the brutal torture by Russian soldiers.

“The hair of that boy was completely gray after that three days of his agony. The sight of the heart-shaking persecution turned the young boy pale and grey as an old-aged one it was when he saw his mother being tortured by the Russian soldiers, says Sister Liji from Ukraine in a breaking voice.

“The soldiers are doing more harm to the civilians in Ukraine than even the animals. The only thing the civilians here have done is to be born in Ukraine. Is that why they have to suffer so much cruelty?” Liji asks.

The case of the 28-year-old daughter, who is struggling to get her mother out of the war, is horrific. When the Russian soldiers entered the house and tried to rape the girl, the exhausted mother made a noise. After shooting and killing her mother, they brutally raped the young woman. These are just one or two experiences of violence against women in Ukraine. Even girls in schools are now secretly taught how to defend themselves when it comes to raping girls in Ukraine.

The people of Ukraine are being brutally murdered

Even vehicles that go to feed the starving poor are threatened and stopped, completely eliminating the opportunity to deliver food to the people and starving them. Two days ago, Russian troops stormed a village in Ukraine and shot dead about 2,000 civilians. In Ukraine, the government allows only women and children to flee. The men, however, remain in Ukraine as the country needs them to help with the war. Thus the Russian soldiers unexpectedly broke into the houses where the men were and shot them all, shares Sister Liji to Catholic News.

Bodies are scattered on the roads! Many bodies have no arms, legs, or other organs. It will take the Ukrainian government at least ten days to bury these bodies alone. What kind of atrocities is being perpetrated in this 21st century by depriving human beings of their freedom and rights?

“I am sitting in the presence of the Lord these days and weeping over these conditions. What else can I do?”, asks Sister Liji.

This is another incident. A number of tires have been added for burning. The naked bodies of about six women were under the burning of those tires. Why were they stripped naked? All six were victims of military brutality. Who will answer for all these tears?

The whole world must still pray fervently for Ukraine for an end to this brutal persecution. Everyone has the right to life. Destroying men not only with weapons here, but even women and children also continue to be brutally attacked. The ambulances are flying with the wounded people to the hospital are attacked by Russian soldiers.

“Women and children no longer have tears to shed. If they cry, blood will be shed instead of tears. The situation here is so painful. Only God can do anything” – c. Says Lizzy.

There are now about eighty refugees living with Sister Liji. Aid is being delivered to them from different places to deliver the goods to different places. Now it is a situation where women cannot go outside anywhere.

Sister Liji Payyappilly has painfully revealed some of the mirror images of Ukraine. There are no other superlative degrees of words to explain the worse images of Ukraine. The poor people of Ukraine might have thought that ‘if they were not born’. Let’s pray to God for ending the war before it swallows the country.
