March 09: Saint Frances

Frances was born in 1384, the daughter of Paul de Buxo and Jacqueline, a noble couple in Rome. It is said that since she was only two years old, she would sit alone in the corner of any room, composing prayers and singing hymns.

Despite her desire to dedicate herself to God through her monastic life, they married her in 1396 to the Roman prince Lawrence.

Although married, she did not interrupt any of her devotional activities. At the same time, special care was taken to fulfill all the responsibilities as a family member. During their marriage of forty years, Frances never disobeyed her husband. The saint never lost the little time she had to pray or the opportunity to do any charity.

Frances took special care to raise her children, whom God had gifted her, as saints. The life of the saint has faced many trials. In 1431 the King of Naples invaded the city of Rome and looted their homes and confiscated property. Frances’s eldest son was imprisoned. In addition, her husband was deported. The saint accepted all these difficulties with patience and joy to a pious soul.

Since then, Frances has led a more pious life. The life of the saint led many other women in Rome to lead a more humble and pious life. With the permission of her husband, who had returned from a long exile, she established a convent called ‘Oblates’. Their code of law was to add a few conditions to Benedict’s laws. In 1437 the Holy See approved the Code. The church got its name ‘Collins’ from the place where the Mother House of the Church was located in Rome.

After the death of her husband, the saint joined the church. She wanted to make a living by doing the humble work of the church, but the church appointed her abbot. Through the short life of the saint, God was able to work many miracles and bestow various blessings on the world.

On 9 March 1440, at the age of 56, the saint set out for her Divine Lord. Pope Paul V canonized her on May 29, 1608.
