Pope Francis Prays for Health Personnel

Pope Francis paid tribute to the doctors, nurses, nurses and volunteers who are close to the sick and asked for applause to thank him for his work. Italy is celebrating the Day of Health Personnel on 20 February. The Pope remembered their valuable services while celebrating the day.

The Holy Father thanked the medical staff who have shown “heroism during the time of COVID” by providing not only health care but also companionship to those who suffer.

“Today is the National Day of Health Personnel and we must remember so many doctors, nurses and nurses, volunteers, who are next to the sick, take care of them, make them feel better, help them,” the Pope said.

Then, the Holy Father recalled that “no one is saved alone” and added that “in sickness, we need someone to take care of us, to help us.”

In this line, the Pope recounted an anecdote that a doctor told him when “in the time of COVID a person was dying and said: Take my hand, I am dying and I need your hand”.

“The heroic healthcare personnel demonstrated this heroism in the time of COVID, but the heroism remains every day. To our doctors, nurses, nurses and volunteers a round of applause and a big thank you”, concluded the Holy Father.

Pope Francis has asked on several occasions to pray for health personnel.
