Pope Francis encouraged the cardinals and superiors of the Roman Curia to allow themselves to be “evangelized by the humility of the Child Jesus”. The Pope reminded them to implement an organization of an evangelical and non-corporate type.
“The Curia, let’s not forget, is not only a logistical and bureaucratic instrument for the needs of the universal Church, no, but it is the first body called to give testimony, and for that very reason it acquires more authority and effectiveness when it personally assumes the challenges of the synodal conversion to which it is also called. The organization that we must implement is not corporate, but evangelical, “said the Holy Father on December 23, on the traditional meeting prior to Christmas.
The three characteristics of a humble Church, which listens to the Spirit and places its center outside of itself are participation, mission, and communion.
It is about “the three requirements that I would like to indicate as a style of humility to which we must aspire here in the Curia. Three ways to make humility a concrete itinerary that we can put into practice ”, said the Pope.
In this way, the Holy Father asked to flee from the logic of worldliness to allow himself to be “evangelized by the humility of the Child Jesus” since “only by serving and thinking about our work as service can we be truly useful to everyone. ”
“We are here – I the first – to learn to get on our knees and worship the Lord in his humility, and not other lords in his empty opulence. Let’s be like the shepherds, let’s be like the wise men, let’s be like Jesus. Here is the lesson of Christmas: humility is the great condition of faith, of spiritual life, of holiness ”.
Likewise, the Pope recalled that “the mystery of Christmas is the mystery of God who comes into the world through the path of humility” and invited us to reflect “What is the use of gaining the whole world if one loses oneself ? ”.
In this sense, the Holy Father described that “humility is the ability to know how to live without despair, with realism, joy and hope, our humanity; this humanity loved and blessed by the Lord. Humility is understanding that we do not have to be ashamed of our fragility. Jesus teaches us to look at our misery with the same love and tenderness with which one looks at a small, fragile child, in need of everything ”.
“Dear brothers and sisters, if it is true that without humility we cannot find God or experience salvation, it is also true that without humility we cannot find our neighbor, brother, and sister who live by our side,” said the Pope.
