Let’s Be a Christmas Candle

Some people bring people back to life like a candle. Light, no matter how small, invigorates lives. Lives without light become fair and shapeless. The Biblical writer writes that ‘without light, there was null and emptiness’. Hence God has created Light to get rid out of the shapelessness and emptiness of the universe. Without light, the earth and everything in it would remain inanimate.

Light is not only symbolic but also associated with matter and the human voice. Enlightenment for human happiness and mental health. In connection with the high winter suicide rate in cold countries has attracted the attention of psychologists. As winter approaches, the number of suicides increases. As the length of days in winter decreases and the available daylight becomes dimmer cause the people and their lives are dull and meaningless.  Lack of light not only causes depression in human beings but also leads weak souls to suicide.

The greatest significance of light in human life is that it gives him hope to live. That is how one’s life becomes brighter when Christ comes. He describes himself as “the light of the world.” It is also interesting to note that the birth, death, and resurrection of Christ are symbolized with light. When he was born, a star appeared in the sky. When he died, the sun went dark. When he was on earth, he conquered human beings by lighting their lives like a gentle lamp.

How the life of the householder, whose light of celebration was extinguished when the wine for the guests was gone, the life of Martha and Mary’s family, who were dimmed with joy at the death of Lazarus, and the life of the widow, who was darkened by the death of her son, can not be compared to the light that has not faded like a shadow of despair. When it seems that his Light Years on earth is coming to an end, he says: “You also are the light of the world”.  As the sun begins to burn, it shines its light on the small lamps. That light is a candle.

We are always blaming the darkness. The lovelessness, injustice, and corruption that we see around us can wreak havoc on us.  But we forget that we have the light to overcome that darkness. We do not have to work very hard to light those little lights. It is enough to have the will to prove those twists. Instead of blaming the darkness, let us shine a light over the darkness. That spirit will brighten our perverse times.

Prayer: O God, I have lit innumerable candles in many churches. The candles burning in front of the lawn have given me joy.  Yet I have not yet been able to bring to life the true spirituality of the candle of being a light to others. Turn my life into a beacon of light for those around me  …Amen.
