Addressing representatives of the Women in the Vatican Association and the Association of Vatican Lay Workers (ADLV), Pope Leo XIV emphasized that the presence of women in the Vatican is a valuable asset that must be increasingly recognized and appreciated. He noted that women enrich Vatican institutions through their human, professional, and intellectual talents—offering unique sensitivity, creativity, discernment, and a practical approach that broadens the Church’s perspective on modern challenges.
Reaffirming the “irreplaceable centrality of the human person and the inalienable dignity of work” in an era of rapid developments like artificial intelligence, the Holy Father quoted his encyclical Magnifica humanitas, stating that work is not merely a tool, but an expression and enhancement of human dignity. He reminded the gathering that everyone working within the Vatican forms a shared ecclesial community supporting the mission of Peter, where each individual contributes with equal dignity.
The Pontiff also highlighted the role of workers’ associations in fostering unity and community rather than drifting into confrontation or conflict. He insisted that open dialogue remains the primary way forward when workplace issues arise, calling it an integral part of the Church’s vocation to build a supportive environment where people are neither sidelined nor used, and where everyone’s competence and worth are fully acknowledged.
