Originally published in Italian by the Vatican Publishing House (Libreria Editrice Vaticana) as Liberi sotto la Grazia, this release offers English-speaking readers direct access to the spiritual foundation of the Church’s first American Pope.
The volume compiles addresses, homilies, and personal writings from the Pontiff’s tenure as Fr. Robert Prevost when he served as Prior General of the Order of St. Augustine. As the first Pope from the Augustinian order, his reflections illuminate how the legacy of St. Augustine—whom he considers his “spiritual father”—has guided his worldview. The collection provides insight into his early responses to defining global moments, including the aftermath of 9/11, shifting political ideologies, and the Church’s mission regarding poverty and human rights.
