Pope Leo XIV is set to return to the papal residence at Castel Gandolfo this week for a multi-day retreat centered around one of the Catholic Church’s major liturgical celebrations. Arriving on the evening of Wednesday, August 12, the Pontiff will remain in the town until Tuesday, August 18.
During his visit, Pope Leo will celebrate the Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary on Saturday, August 15. The main highlight of the visit will be at 10:00 a.m., when he presides over Holy Mass at the Pontifical Parish of St. Thomas of Villanova—mirroring the schedule and tradition he established during last year’s observance.
Following the morning Mass, the Pope will lead the traditional recitation of the Angelus prayer for the gathered faithful. This return to Castel Gandolfo marks a continuation of papal traditions in the historic lakeside town, bringing local parishioners and visiting pilgrims together for the Marian feast day.
